Where is Lucia Whalen hiding? She's the woman who on Thursday, July 16, 2009 around 12:30pm called Cambridge, Massachusetts police to say that, "two large black men with backpacks" were breaking into a house on Ware St. Ware St. is not far from Harvard Square, and anyone living in that vicinity is usually affiliated with Harvard University or very wealthy.
Turns out the person she saw breaking in was esteemed scholar of African American history, Prof. Henry Louis Gates, Jr. trying to get into his own home! Turns out he and his chaffeuer were wearing suits, there were three pieces of luggage on the porch and a Town Car parked outside. Prof. Gates had just returned from a trip to China. Prof. Gates is an older gentleman, small and walks with a cane. As you've heard in the news, Prof. Gates was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after asking Sgt. Jim Crowley to produce ID. The charges were later dropped.

At first I thought the incident happened at night. Turns out it happened in broad daylight. So, from what I can conclude about Ms. Whalen is that she is a BIGOT! Yes, she may have been well intentioned calling in a potential B&E (Breaking & Entering), but her description of the two men was way off. What did she want...the police to shoot the two black men with backpacks? If Prof. Gates was a younger, stronger looking black man he probably would have been shot in his own home! Did she want to be declared a hero for nabbing two black men. Obviously she didn't expect to see black people living in a nice house on Ware St.

Some people will never be satisfied until they can find someone to hate. They can’s take the time to read the police report that has been all over the web since last week. They will jump to the conclusion to scream ‘racism’ because the believe no black person can ever do anything wrong.

Just for the record, and contrary to your erroneous allegations above, the Boston police have confirmed that Ms. Whalen did *NOT* mention the race of the men she witnessed in her 911 call.

The strategy of bigots is well known : blame the victim
Every day new information emerges about this episode which invalidates what people were saying about it yesterday. With the release by Cambridge Police of her 911 call, It looks as if her vilifiers owe Lucia Whalen a very big apology. They especially do if their remarks contributed to her being harassed at all. Whalen was calling on behalf of an elderly neighbor who had just moved in. On the call she does not mention race until asked and then says that one of the men might be hispanic and that she did not see the othe one. She says that it is quite possible they are just having trouble getting in to the house and very well might live there.
So she ends up sounding like a decent person helping to ease the concerns of an elderly woman. Lets leave her alone okay.
Jeez. If a neighbor of mine saw me looking like a burglar, breaking into my own house, I HOPE she would call 911.
And when the police arrived, I would understand that they would assume I WAS a burglar. I would speak respectfully to them, obey their lawful orders, show them my ID, and explain calmly how I came to be in such a predicament.
And when the matter was cleared up, I would THANK THEM for their quick response.
But let’s keep this in perspective. It’s still a pretty minor incident that got blown out of all proportion, and it’s way past time for all the talking heads to put a lid on it.
Ms. Whalen never mentioned in her call to the police that the men were black. Crowley was the one who wrote in his police report that Ms. Whalen said the men were black. It may be safely said that Crowley made an error in writing that it was Whalen who told him the men were black. It is my opinion that Crowley was sloppy in his police reporting.
Let’s take race out of the equation for a moment. Lucia whalen is still wrong.
Lucia whalen should not be a stranger to Prof Gates’ residence on Ware street. SHE FUCKING WORKS A FEW DOORS DOWN!!! How could she describe the diminutive, frail Prof Gates, who walks with a cane, as one of “two larger men”? Because. as she said on the call, she didn’t get a good look at either man. She calls 911 without even bothering to do a compulsory look? That’s reckless and stupid. Had she given one of the “two larger men” a closer look she probably, ok, hopefully, would have recognized one of Harvard’s most prominent scholars. Crisis adverted.
Lucia whalen knows she did something wrong. People want to speak with her to get her mindset at the time of the call. Instead she has gone into hiding and is lawyering up. She deserves some blame for this shit blowing up. What kind of community do we live in? We should know our neighbors instead of peeking through the blinds with suspicion and living in fear.
Have you even read the transcript? She did nothing wrong. You are a complete moron for posting her information like this. Maybe Gates shouldn’t have acted like an idiot. I feel bad for whoever has to listen to this clown at Harvard.

Um–gee–I work at a small university that borders on a residential district. And I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA who lives next to our building (where I work on the third floor) or across the street. To the poster who chastises Lucia Whalen for not knowing her neighbors–This is a pretty poor example to use in making that point. Of course she’s lawyering up. With knee-jerk posters like this–who obviously don’t let the facts get in the way of their thinking–out there, she’d be stupid not to.
Do you live in a city? Not everyone knows their neighbors in a city atmosphere, especially if you don’t see them around. Also, Ms. Whalen works down the street…she’s not his “neighbor.” So were you there at the time and you can tell Ms. Whalen what she indeed saw? Were you crouched somewhere in a bush or something recording this whole incident. YEAH, I DIDN’T THINK SO. Do you work at Harvard? Do you realize Harvard has 16,000 employees? Do you realize how spread out departments at Harvard are and some friends of mine who have worked at Harvard have never seen Professor Gates or wouldn’t know what he looks like because they are in no way remotely involved in any department near him? Lucia Whalen behaved admirably.
She never mentioned race, even after the 911 operator prompted her to identify the person’s race. The second time he asked about race, she said maybe Hispanic, but made it clear she wasn’t sure and also made it VERY clear that she couldn’t identify the second person who was already in the house.
She also went out of her way to be objective and to make it clear to the 911 operator that the people entering the house maybe lived there.
The only person who identified the people forcing entry to the house as “black” was Sergeant Crowley, in his police report.
No one else, not Whalen, nor the 911 operator, nor the dispatcher said ANYTHING about a black man. The only place it’s mentioned is in the report.
Now that the truth is out from the 911 tapes, have you had a chance to remove your foot from your mouth ?

Yes sir, I can’t believe the black community or at least this blog writer figured it all out. This is a bigger conspiracy than 911. Lucia Whalen had a meeting with officer Crowley earlier in the day and since they knew when gates would be returning they jammed his door, and Lucia waited around the corner while looking for other black people to profile. Then when he finally arrived she called 911 pretending to be fearful for her life and since officer crowley was involved he was only 2 blocks away, why do you think he got there so fast. He arrived by himself at first so he could jab gates in the ribs and take a few pot shots at him so he would be aggitated when other officers arrived to prove he was doing the right thing. Then after crowley walked out of the house another officer shoved gates out onto the front porch and onto Crowley so they could say he was being attacked. gates said”this is what happens to a black man in america” because he was right, but the onlookers didn’t know what was going on before they started watching. The cops later dropped the charges because they had already found a couple thousand and some hi end electronics they looted after throwing him in the back of the cruiser.
A perfect masterpiece of a crime once again brough to you by the white man. It was all to disgrace a professor. They sat around for months thinking of ways to do it. After all that is all white people do all day long is think of ways to be racist against blacks and this proves it.

This was, by far, one of the most irresponsible, misleading, uninformed blog posts I have ever read. It bleeds with irony and ignorance. The author does nothing short of project their own bigotry onto Lucia Whalen.

If you want to throw such harsh accusations and criticism at someone, you better damn well verify that what you are saying is factual and not a regurgitation of hearsay. Lucia Whalen NEVER said the people she saw were black. She never even brought up race until the dispatcher asked what race the two men were, then she merely said that one of them looked “kind of hispanic” and that she didn’t see the other one. She acted completely responsible and did the right thing.

when someone jumps to a conclusion and make statements online without the facts, they are showing that they are prejudice. we are americans, not white or black or any other race. The sooner people feel that way, there will not be so much prejudice. Stop blaming other people for what you do or where you are at. you control your own direction in life No one owes anyone, we all should work for what we have. I have known people with little education that are very successfull.

A suggestion to the readers, Google.com and the authorities. This person obviously knows that racism is a highly charged emotional topic that will create a lot of buzz which works in their favor, regardless of their motives.
One of two motives are at play here. Either this person is probably laughing all the way to the bank and profiting from all the hits to this site. Google pays by impression for the ads on this page.
Or this person is firmly entrenched in thier beliefs that they are willing to commit acts that can and did harm other people and which did incite fear and unrest. Don;t we call these people radical extremists.
Note: If this wasn’t so:
1. they would have reported the facts more objectively to begin with.
2. they would have come forward and apologized as the true facts have come out.
3. they would not been hypocritical in ther first place by labeling a person(s) while claiming themself to not like a group of people being labeled. People of reason understand the hypocracy.
Therefore, I suggest the following:
1. That the Google corporation evaluate any payments to this account on the grounds of creating web traffic for profit by misreprentation and fraud. Hopefully there is something in Googles Adsense terms of use agreement to support this.
2 I suggest that Homeland security investige this blogger to determine their true motive and to avoid future incidents like this happening. Especially now that this site has a certain notiariety which has caused more people to follow it. Including those who may share views and willing to take the same kinds of action.
Of course, they will try to hide under the first amendment to say they have a right to say these things. Well, we don’t have the right to yell “fire” in a movie theater and these words are the same as striking a match to ignite emotions that can and did harm people.
3, I hope the majority of the people support our good Samaritans, publice officers who protect use (regardless of race or creed) and support any legal action against this person or persons.
4. I hope the press who have help fuel the fire by publishing this persons blog, thus helping thier cause, will write an editorial or article to encourage people to stop visiting this site and to look for the truth in the right places. And to publish these suggestions to see if that will spark action by the parties suggested to move them in the right direction.
We can rant and rave about how we dislike what this blogger did but only action will prevent it from happening in the futre. I have forwarded this letter to my local government representatives, the DOHS and the media as I’m not sure this comment will be here long before this blogger censors it. Which will further prove my assertations. I have indicated in my letter that if they go to this blog and not see this comment, then that is further evidence to support my suggested actions.

Maybe you should have wait to listen to the 911 call before you wrote this blog. Then again, it is a blog and full of BS. Like everyone else that had something to say about this incident without having all of the facts, you are only spreading more BS. Chalk up a few points to your credibility.
So are you planning to update this bigoted rant of yours now that the FACTS are now known of the 911 call Ms. Whalen made to the police? Besides she never said there was anyone breaking in but that two people were having problems with the door and never mentions ethnicity at all. Those who continue to vilify Ms. Whalen are race-baiters and are looking to create a stir regardless of the facts.
